Description:
This course offers a comprehensive training in dentistry and has a preventive approach that seeks to optimize the health and welfare of equines. Throughout the classes, the oral-dental characteristics of equines and the methodology to hold the patient in order to perform a thorough examination of the oral cavity, the characteristic clinical signs of oral-dental pathologies, the practical tools to diagnose specific alterations according to each category and the treatment routes of the most frequent pathologies are addressed.
Learning objectives
At the end of this course students should be able to:
1. Recognize the impact of preventive dental care on the quality of life of equine animals.
2. Identify the species-specific oral-dental characteristics to understand equine oral health.
3. Know:
- The proper methodology to perform patient restraint and thorough examination of the oral cavity.
- Characteristic clinical signs, indicative of oral-dental problems.
- The most prevalent pathologies in the different animal categories.
- The clinical protocol for a thorough oral-dental examination.
- Practical tools to arrive at a diagnosis.
- Treatment routes for the most common conditions.
